The U.S. Department of Defense says 25 percent of the manufacturing of prototype materials for Virginia-class submarines will be done in the Posey County city as part of a $116 million contract from the U.S. Navy.
Electric Boat Corp. will also have work performed at facilities in New York, Virginia, Kentucky, Florida, Illinois, Washington and Maryland. The work is expected to be complete by November 2019.
The $116 million is the latest boost to the original contract awarded in 2010. The cumulative value of the contract is more than $1 billion. The Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington D.C. is the contracting activity.
