‘Most Affordable Places to Retire’ Includes Hoosier Cities

Subscribe NowA website focusing on adult communities has included two Indiana cities in its list of the "20 Most Affordable Places to Retire in 2019." The list from 55places.com was determined by measuring a variety of criteria such as overall cost of living, median home prices, and local healthcare options.
Some of the other factors include state tax laws, availability of 55+ communities, and public transit. The website says the cities included on the list "not only offer reasonable housing costs, but also provide exciting amenities and healthy living options."
South Bend is ranked eighth on the list, followed by Indianapolis at number 20.
"This information tells us 77 percent of active adults need their next home to be affordable," Danny Goodman, co-founder of 55places.com, said in a news release. "But a home within a certain price point is only half of the equation. The surrounding area—whether or not an active adult community is of interest—plays an integral role in quality of life, and nearby attractions and available establishments can greatly enhance that. These destinations provide budget-friendly options without demanding a sacrifice for comfort."
Sioux Falls, South Dakota tops the list, followed by the Florida cities of Ocala, Lakeland, Jacksonville and Daytona Beach. You can view the full list by clicking here.
