More Trail Mileage Opens in The Region

The biking and walking path, which is still seeking funding to eventually connect Chicago to New Buffalo, Michigan, is currently less than half-complete.
Recently, the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission lost out on $24.5 million in funding it applied for through the federal TIGER grant program. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the NIRPC is now seeking $23 million from another government source, the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development program.
The NIRPC’s Greenways+Blueways 2020 Plan, a regional trails plan including the Marquette greenways project that was approved in February, shows 30.2 miles of the proposed 57.8-mile path is already complete.
