U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday unveiled its list of the 2025 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. The publication evaluated more than 800 hospitals across the country, with 10 in Indiana receiving a “High Performing” designation.

The number of Indiana hospitals on this year’s list is nearly double from last year.

The list, which is not a ranking, is based on seven measures of maternity care: C-section delivery rates, severe unexpected newborn complication rates, routine vaginal birth after cesarean delivery rates, commitment to exclusive breast milk feeding, episiotomy rates, birthing-friendly practices, and reporting on racial/ethnic disparities.

The Indiana hospitals that received the “High Performing” designation are:

  • Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital
  • IU Health North Hospital (Carmel)
  • St. Catherine Hospital-East Chicago
  • IU Health Medical Center (Riley Hospital for Children – Indianapolis)
  • Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center (Jasper)
  • Clark Memorial Hospital (Jeffersonville)
  • IU Health Arnett Hospital (Lafayette)
  • IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital (Muncie)
  • Baptist Health Floyd Hospital (New Albany)
  • IU Health Paoli Hospital (Orange County)

U.S. News also unveiled its second-annual list of Maternity Care Access Hospitals, which outlines facilities “serving communities that depend on them for access to vital maternity care services.”

A hospital was eligible if it was the only hospital providing maternity care within its county and was located in a county with fewer than 60 obstetric providers per 10,000 births or was the only hospital within a 15-mile radius and also located in a county with fewer than 128 obstetric providers per 10,000 births.

This year’s Maternity Care Access Hospitals list features four hospitals in Indiana:

  • Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center (Jasper)
  • Clark Memorial Hospital (Jeffersonville)
  • IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital (Muncie)
  • IU Health Paoli Hospital (Orange County)
