More COVID Layoffs Reported to State

Two additional companies have announced temporary layoffs as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to separate notices to the state, the layoffs affect more than 170 workers.
Missouri-based Leggett & Platt Inc. (NYSE: LEG) says it is placing 139 employees at its Rensselaer on temporary, unpaid layoffs. The manufacturer says it expects the layoffs to last less than six month.
Meanwhile, Anderson-based Jim’s Formal Wear LLC says it is temporarily closing its customer service center in the Madison County city. As a result, the company has laid off the majority of its employees, 44 in all, some of whom are part-time workers.
“We believe that these layoffs will be temporary, and anticipate reopening the service center and restoring team members to their regular positions on May 4, 2020,” the company said.
