Washington, D.C. — Today, Senator Joe Donnelly announced a federal grant awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration to allow Wabash Municipal Airport to rehabilitate its runway. Under the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP), Wabash Municipal Airport was awarded approximately $1.5 million.
Donnelly said, “Hoosier families and businesses rely on our state’s efficient infrastructure to get from one place to the next or to move goods and services. This grant provided by the Federal Aviation Administration will allow Wabash Municipal to improve its runway so that passengers and cargo planes can continue to be safe traveling in and out of Indiana.”

Jeffersonville, Ind. — The South Central Regional Airport Authority (SCRAA) announced Wednesday (Sept. 18) it has received the go-ahead from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for Grant 26. The nearly $1.2M grant will allow for the completion of the Phase II of the Bean Road project. The project relocates Bean Road around the north side of Clark Regional Airport. The move will make way for the eventual extension of the airport’s main runway, 18/36.
Construction contracts were awarded in March of last year and Phase I money was received in 2011. Phase II funding was to have followed in 2012, but federal budget challenges forced a delay. The SCRAA and the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will together contribute an additional ten percent in local matching funds to the project, for a total Grant 26 award of just over $1.3M.
The grant provides for the FAA-required relocation of a wetland area off of airport property. It also provides funds for engineering and design work that will lead to the relocation of the airport's instrument landing system (ILS), glideslope, weather and approach lighting systems.
SCRAA officials say they hope to have the new road open by the end of 2013. The runway extension, which has already been approved by the FAA, will not likely be completed until 2016.

Evansville, Ind. — Today, Representative Larry Bucshon announced a Department of Transportation discretionary grant awarded to the Evansville Regional Airport to help complete the runway expansion project that is currently in progress.
In his role on the House Aviation Subcommittee and representative for the Evansville area in Congress, Bucshon worked with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to secure the $13.7 million grant.
“Our community relies on the Evansville Regional Airport for travel and businesses rely on this hub to transport goods and services,” said Bucshon. “I am pleased to see this grant awarded to help with the runway expansion project. Expanding our runway here in Evansville is vital for travel safety, is essential for the local economy, and helps to ensure the airport is equipped to meet future demands. Increasing the number of passengers and products we have efficiently transported in and out of the area will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the local economy and community.”
According to airport authorities, the grant will allow the project to be completed a year early.
“We look forward to receiving this additional grant for the Runway Safety Area Project here at Evansville Regional Airport,” said Doug Joest, Airport Manager. “We greatly appreciate Congressman Bucshon's efforts in keeping this project on track, especially given the challenging budget environment. This latest grant will enable us to finish the project more than a year before the deadline of December 31, 2015.”
