Program Director Heather Tallman tells Inside INdiana Business the event not only gives attendees the chance to sample locally-made products, but also provides a benefit for businesses. "We like to provide opportunities just like this where they can reach the public from all over the state in one place."
Tallman says Indiana Grown hopes to create connections for Hoosiers to find products that they didn’t know were made in Indiana, as well as for businesses looking to grow, something that has happened in the past.
"Our first Monumental Marketplace, we had inadvertently put a couple of vendors side by side who actually were looking for ingredients and ended up doing business together. There was a local produce distributor who came and met several people that they’re still doing business with today. So we like to think the ripple effects of this one-day event carry on for years to come."
Tallman says it’s important to put on display where people’s food is coming from.
"Today, we have fifth generation hog farmers and we have small entrepreneurs and businesses and they’re all in the same place and we have people they maybe they wouldn’t have reached before. So we think it’s important just to get them together to make those connections."
Indiana Grown has more than 1,500 members since launching nearly four years ago. You can learn more about the initiative by clicking here.
