The parent organization of the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon has changed its name. Now known as Beyond Monumental, the organization says the change represents growth beyond the annual race.
The organization was formerly known as Indianapolis Monumental Inc. In conjunction with the rebranding, Beyond Monumental has announced new and expanded events and programs.
"Beyond Monumental is more than a name," said Blake Boldon, executive director of Beyond Monumental. "It creates an exciting new culture and defines a larger purpose for our organization. It speaks to our participants who go beyond the extra mile. It speaks to our programs that go beyond the race events and into classrooms and the community. This new name sets the stage for all that we do – and at a time when it is evident we are doing more than a race."
The organization says its Monumental Kids Movement has expanded to 15 schools in Lawrence and Wayne townships in Indianapolis. The youth running program, which runs for nine weeks, previously served more than 30 schools only in Center Township.
Beyond Monumental has also created a new program, INDYTHON, which celebrates participants who complete both the Indianapolis Half Marathon in October and the Monumental Marathon in November.
Earlier this year, the organization announced it had secured a title sponsor for the Monumental Marathon. Carmel-based CNO Financial Group Inc. (NYSE; CNO) signed a multi-year deal to sponsor the race.
