Indiana State University will host former Gov. Mitch Daniels on Monday night as part of its University Speaker Series.
The event at 7 p.m. at Tilson Auditorium is free and open to the public.
Daniels served as governor from 2004-2012 and then president of Purdue University from 2013-2022. He now holds the title president emeritus at Purdue and is distinguished scholar and senior advisor at the Carmel-based Liberty Fund.
“We are honored to welcome such a distinguished leader in both government and education,” ISU President Mike Godard of said in a statement. “Daniels’ proven record of improving accessibility and affordability in higher education closely aligns with our mission at Indiana State.”
During his time at Purdue, Daniels and the university board instituted a tuition free that has kept the cost of attendance lower today than in 2012, even when adjusted for inflation.
Before becoming governor, Daniels served as chief of staff to Sen. Richard Lugar, senior advisor to President Ronald Reagan, director of the Office of Management and Budget under President George W. Bush, and CEO of the Hudson Institute. He also spent more than a decade as an executive at Eli Lilly and Co.
“Mitch Daniels has a remarkable ability to navigate both the public and private sectors,” said Nancy Rogers, ISU’s vice president for university engagement. “We are excited to hear his insights on how higher education can evolve to meet the challenges of tomorrow.”
On March 18, Indiana State will host Jim Axelrod, chief investigative and senior national correspondent for CBS News, for the Jamal Khashoggi Annual Address on Journalism and the Media. That event is at 7 p.m. in Tilson Auditorium and is also free and open to the public.
