A Carmel-based energy market manager has opened a new onsite health and wellness clinic for employees. Midcontinent Independent System Operator Inc.'s clinic offers primary and acute care, medications, lab work and minor injury care. August 19, 2014

News Release

CARMEL, Ind. — Getting to the doctor’s office will soon become a whole lot more convenient for employees at MISO. The Carmel based company operates the power grid in 15 States and the Canadian Province of Manitoba. On Monday, July 21, the doors officially opened for the new onsite health and wellness clinic, managed by OurHealth. Employees will now be able to walk from their desks to the doc.

“Employees have access to a doctor, physician assistant, nurses, and a personal health coach. Employees will never have to wait. They are able to schedule same day appointments with the doctor or medical staff. If the clinic is running behind, someone will call you and let you know” said Greg Powell, MISO’s vice president of Human Resources.

The clinic offers primary and acute care, on-site medications, on-site lab work, minor injury care and a personal health coaching.

Powell says MISO studied the idea of having an on-site clinic for more than 3 years. The in-depth analysis found the move would save the company and employees’ money and time, and can boost employee wellness.

“The idea is for the clinic to focus on preventive and acute care so the patient can focus on their wellness and well-being. To make this possible, doctors will spend time getting to know patients and their history” said Powell. “Our employees are a vital part of this organization and the OurHealth clinic aligns perfectly with our focus to provide convenient access to affordable, quality healthcare.”

MISO employees, their spouses and dependents ages 13 and up who are enrolled in a MISO-sponsored medical plan can visit the clinic at no cost.

MISO says employees and dependents who utilize the clinic will save the company money in terms of reimbursement for healthcare visits and medications. The doctor at the OurHealth clinic will also assist with referrals based on quality and cost.

The opening of the clinic is another step MISO is taking to promote health and wellness among its workforce. The company also provides a fitness center and fitness classes onsite. The company’s belief is that healthy employees are more successful and productive employees.
