A mining company is reducing its work force in southern Indiana. United Minerals Company LLC says a drop in demand for coal is leading to the move that could impact as many as 138 employees.

The company says the cuts will occur between December 31 and January 13. In a notice to the state, it says all employees have been notified. The reduction will affect operations in Dubois, Warrick, Pike, Gibson and Vanderburgh counties.
