The company planning to build a $2.6 billion dollar fertilizer plant in southwest Indiana says it will no longer seek economic incentives from the state. Our partners at WEHT-TV/WTVW-TV in Evansville report Midwest Fertilizer will devote its efforts to supporting Posey County for a state-funded bypass around Mt. Vernon. The plant is expected to be built at Sauerkraut Lane and Mackey Ferry Road and should be operating in 2018.

The project has encountered many hurdles.

Back in 2013, Governor Mike Pence suspended state support for the project due to concerns with the company's lead investor, Pakistan-based Fatima Group. The governor later reopened talks on economic incentives for Midwest Fertilizer.
