Michigan Company Closing Richmond Facility

Michigan-based Janesville Acoustics has announced plans to close its manufacturing facility in Richmond. In a notice to the state, the company said nearly 70 employees will be laid off as a result of the closure.

In a press release issued to Inside INdiana Business, Janesville Acoustics says it is consolidating its Richmond operations into its facility in Battle Creek, Michigan as part of "ongoing efforts to reduce costs and improve operations." The planned layoffs are expected to begin in phases, beginning in mid-February and continuing through the first week of August.

“While this was a difficult decision, it makes sense to combine production in Michigan," said Srivas Prasad, senior vice president and general manager of Janesville Acoustics. "The mid- to long-term outlook is for lower automotive industry volumes. Janesville can realize increased efficiencies by consolidating operations and achieving operational synergies. We are committed to supporting each of our employees through this transition, whether they are able to find open positions at our other operations in Indiana, transfer to Michigan, or pursue other employment.”

Janesville Acoustics manufactures acoustical fiber insulation products for the global automotive and transportation industry, according to its website. The company has additional facilities throughout the U.S. and Mexico.

The company is a subsidiary of Jason Industries Inc. (Nasdaq: JASN).
