Northwest LaPorte County now has over 420 more acres of land for economic development after several parcels were annexed following a partnership between Michigan City and its economic development corporation.
The property runs along Interstate 94 and Highways 35 and 20 and is mostly suited for manufacturing and large distribution warehouses. Michigan City Mayor Ron Meer said, “As the Mayor, I believe it is paramount that our goal is to make Michigan City, and in this particular case, this property, attractive and ‘shovel ready’ for potential investors and developers. The city engaged in a friendly annexation of this property and plans to invest in the area with water and sewer infrastructure."
There are other available parcels of the land in the area for commercial, retail, hotel and office space, along with potential residential use. Economic Development Corporation Michigan City executive director Clarence Hulse says the property is "geographically perfect." “It’s all about the location,” Hulse said. “This is premium, large acreage available for sale for advanced manufacturing, logistical type businesses in the Michigan City area.”
The annexation comes five years after the creation of the EDCMC Strategic Action Plan to find potential development sites. More information on the land can be found here.
