Michelle Obama to Talk Issues Facing Women, Girls

Subscribe NowFormer First Lady Michelle Obama will be in Indianapolis Tuesday night for an event focusing on empowering women and girls. The moderated conversation at Bankers Life Fieldhouse is being organized by the Women’s Fund of Central Indiana. During an appearance on The INsiders on Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick, Executive Director Jennifer Pope Baker discussed how initiatives led by the former First Lady align with those of the Indianapolis-based organization.
"Women’s Fund and Mrs. Obama share a lot of common interest in women and girls," Baker said. "She was the spokeswoman for The Campaign to Change Direction, which teaches people the five signs of emotional wellness and what to recognize if you have a deficit in those areas." Baker added that she worked with the White House in 2014 and 2015 on the prison to poverty pipeline for teenage girls, a topic which is slated to come up during the presentation, along with food insecurity. Baker says the event will "an inspiring and exciting night for our community."
