The effort, which was funded through federal and state grants, included taxiway improvements along with new LED lighting.
The IAA says work on the project began in late April and the airport reopened in June, ahead of schedule. Crews resurfaced one taxiway and extended it more than 4,000 feet to match the overall length of the runway. In addition to the LED lighting, crews also repainted runway markers at the airfield.
The airport is part of the Indianapolis International Airport general aviation system, which also includes the Eagle Creek Airpark, Hendricks County Airport-Gordon Graham Field, and the Indianapolis Regional Airport in Greenfield.
"General aviation airports like Metro are crucial to the overall transportation landscape," said IAA Executive Director Mario Rodriguez. “They provide flexibility for flight and function that can’t always be accommodated via commercial flight. Investing in improvements to our general aviation airports is crucial in supporting the public value they deliver to communities throughout Central Indiana."
The IAA received funding for the project in September as part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program.
