News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — Methodist Sports Medicine, recently named one of the “Top 50 Orthopedic Practices to Know” by Becker's Orthopedic & Spine Review, has appointed Thomas Mooney as its new chief executive officer beginning April 1. Mooney will be responsible for the executive leadership at Methodist Sports Medicine's three area locations, including Carmel / Indianapolis, Greenwood and Avon.

“Mr. Mooney is a seasoned professional with many years of experience in orthopedics. Additionally, he has a strong background in information technology and his experience will help us become more connected and accessible to our patients. We welcome him aboard,” said Peter I. Sallay, M.D., president of Methodist Sports Medicine.

“I feel honored to have been chosen to be the next CEO for Methodist Sports Medicine and I am looking forward to meshing my talents with this fine organization to continue delivering top level patient care in Indianapolis and the surrounding communities.” said Mooney.

Mooney has more than 20 years of experience in senior leadership and executive management for healthcare organizations, including physician practices, group practices, health systems, and university hospitals. He has an established track record of transforming traditional operations through the infusion of technological enhancements, developing programs to enhance company growth, and improving private physician practices' processes and operations.

A native of Maryland, Mooney has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Towson State University, and completed a Masters of Business Administration Degree from the University of Phoenix.

Mooney enjoys outdoor activities, exercising, and coaching youth football. A huge fan of NASCAR racing, he is also looking forward to rooting for the Colts, whom he followed during his childhood years in Baltimore. Mooney and his wife are the parents of an adult daughter and are looking forward to making Indiana their new home after spending the past 12 years in South Florida.
