News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The final public open house for The New US 31 Hamilton County freeway project will be held on Wednesday, March 25 at the Carmel High School freshman cafeteria (520 E. Main Street, Carmel). The project team will be available from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. to answer one-on-one questions, and a presentation at 6 p.m. will provide updates on project progress and anticipated schedules for the upcoming construction season.

Representatives from the cities of Carmel and Westfield will also provide a brief overview of their respective local projects planned for 2015.

WHAT: The New US 31 Hamilton County project open house

WHERE: Carmel High School freshman cafeteria (use door 13)

WHEN: Wednesday, March 25, 5:30 to 8 p.m., presentation at 6 p.m.

About the project:

The New US 31 Hamilton County project is upgrading US 31 to freeway standards from I-465 at the Marion-Hamilton County line through Carmel and Westfield to State Road 38. The 13-mile freeway upgrade is the largest and most aggressive road project ever attempted in Hamilton County. The project is intended to reduce congestion, improve safety and provide continuity of commerce and regional travel for a US highway that stretches from Michigan to Alabama.

When completed, in addition to improvements already completed near Kokomo and South Bend, travel time between Indianapolis and South Bend is expected to decrease by about 30 minutes. Construction began in 2011 and, with the accelerated schedule, the entire corridor is expected to be open to traffic by the end of this year.
