The organization says the funding will help with delivery of meals to low-income residents living with HIV.
The grant allows the organization to deliver meals to some of largest populations of people living with HIV, including in Allen, Delaware, Lake, Marion, and Scott counties. A recent study found people living with HIV who have access to proper nutrition have a 63 percent less chance of being hospitalized, and 36 percent less likely to visit an emergency room.
“While our roots stem from serving the homebound and elderly, Meals on Wheels of Central Indiana has placed a strategic focus on expanding our services to serve a wider range of Hoosiers who are chronically ill,” said Nick Fennig, project manager. “This grant represents a critical first step in coordinating how we serve people living with HIV, while furthering the state’s plan for developing a ‘one stop’ model of care.”
MOWCI is partnering with service providers in the targeted communities, or ships meals directly to individuals in the program. For more information on their programs, click here.
