Michigan-based MC Sports has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and is closing all 66 of its stores in the Midwest. That includes seven Indiana locations in Bloomington, Kokomo, Fort Wayne, Goshen, Michigan City and Plymouth.
The company also has stores in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri and Iowa. A joint venture between Tiger Capital Group and Great American Group is conducting the company’s going-out-of-business sale.
The joint venture says MC Sports, which was launched in Grand Rapids in 1946, was one of the few remaining privately-held sporting goods chains in the country. Since its founding, the company acquired regional chains including Illinois-based Morrie Mages’ Sports and Browns Sporting Goods. MC Sports filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Tuesday.
