After completing a tour of duty in Afghanistan with the U.S. Navy, Mayor Pete Buttigieg returns Monday to the helm in the city of South Bend. Deputy Mayor Mark Neal has maintained day-to-day operations for the last seven months. Neal, whose position was created in anticipation of the mayor's absence, will return to the private sector.

Buttigieg will have to hit the ground running, as the city will have to iron out the 2015 budget during the next two months.
