The parent of several well-known mattress brands is planning to close its mattress manufacturing facility in Jeffersonville. In a notice to the state, California-based Resident Home said the move will result in the layoffs of 106 employees.
Resident Home owns the Nectar and DreamCloud Sleep brands. The company announced plans to open the facility at River Ridge Commerce Center in March 2022, and the plant opened a few months later.
The company, which was acquired by Ashley Home Inc. last year, said in a statement to Inside INdiana Business that the Jeffersonville operations are being consolidated into existing operations under its affiliate, Ashley Furniture Industries LLC.
The company did not specify which production locations the Jeffersonville operations are moving to.
“This integration will leverage AFI’s advanced manufacturing capabilities, which possess robust technological and automation enhancements, enabling greater manufacturing capabilities and resulting in best-in-class service to our regional and worldwide markets,” the statement said.
According to Resident Home’s WARN Notice filed with the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the layoffs are expected to begin on March 16.
The layoffs include a variety of positions such as first-line operating workers, industrial engineering technicians, and assemblers and fabricators.
The affected workers are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights. Resident Home said the employees will receive separation assistance and eligible team members will be offered relocation opportunities within AFI’s network.
The notice said the closure is expected to be permanent.
