MatchBOX Coworking Studio in Lafayette will Friday kick off its annual Greater Lafayette Startup Weekend, which runs through Sunday. The event features participants taking an idea from concept to business model and will end with a pitch competition with the winners chosen from a panel of judges.

Participants will first pitch their ideas at the beginning of the event and only a certain number of ideas will be chosen to be pursued. The participants will then form into teams and work throughout the weekend to developer their business plans with the help of professional mentors.

The event begins at 6:00 p.m. Friday and the pitch competition will begin at 5:00 p.m. Sunday. The pitch presentations are open to the public.

The winners will receive a prize package, including a one-year membership to MatchBOX, consultation with lawyers specializing in intellectual property and business law, and accounting tips from Lafayette CPAs.

The Greater Lafayette Startup Weekend is one of two major events hosted by MatchBOX this month. The coworking space will also host Greater Lafayette Entrepreneurship Week, which runs from September 25-29.
