Marriott Chief to Deliver Valpo Address

The president and chief executive officer of Marriott International Inc. (Nasdaq: MAR) will speak at one of Valparaiso University’s three commencement ceremonies. Arne Sorenson will deliver the undergraduate commencement address Sunday afternoon.

Sorenson has served as CEO of Marriott since 2012, before which he served in various roles for the company, including executive vice president and chief financial officer. He is only the third CEO in the company’s history and the first outside of the Marriott family.

"We are honored to welcome Mr. Sorenson to Valparaiso to celebrate Commencement with us this May," said Valparaiso President Mark Heckler. "During a challenging economic time, Mr. Sorenson has been innovative in his long-term strategy for Marriott. His leadership skills combined with his strength of character will resonate with our graduates and guide them as they pursue their passions."

The undergraduate commencement ceremony is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the Athletics-Recreation Center.
