The debate over a proposed amendment to the state Constitution that further defines marriage takes center stage Monday morning at the Statehouse. The House Judiciary Committee is slated to hear the proposal and a companion bill. If the amendment is passed during this legislative session, the issue could go to a public vote. The companion bill aims to define a portion of the amendment that expands the scope to include other relationships like civil unions.

Many employers and universities in the state still oppose the amendment, saying it would limit their ability to compete for top talent.
