Two men who used to do marketing for the Indiana Pacers are trying their luck with their own business. Justin Hunt and Matt Cooper have launched Benchwarmers Marketing, which will focus on the sports and entertainment industry. July 3, 2014

News Release

Indianapolis, Ind. — July 1, 2014 — Two former employees of Pacers Sports & Entertainment have joined forces to form their own marketing agency. The duo credits their time with the NBA franchise, stating the experience gained has been invaluable as they continue to grow their business.

Justin Hunt and Matt Cooper each spent five years as marketers in the Pacers front office. Hunt managed websites during his tenure, handling the content planning and layout of Pacers.com. Cooper played the role of Digital Marketing Manager, responsible for all email, mobile and social media communications. Though no longer working in a full-time capacity with the organization, both have stayed involved in the industry.

“We've each been doing freelance work over the past couple years since leaving the team,” Hunt said. “It only seemed logical that we combine our skill sets to provide complete solutions for our clients.”

The result was Benchwarmers Marketing, a full service marketing agency with a focus on the sports and entertainment industry. The agency believes the combination of Hunt's creative development and Cooper's marketing strategy provides broad appeal.

“We know the difficulties of working for a professional sports team,” Cooper said. “No matter the talent level of the front office, most teams are spread too thin to accomplish everything in their marketing plan.”

That's where Benchwarmers hopes to come into play. With current focuses on dynamic pricing, group sales and data appends, they believe they have found a niche in the sports and entertainment industry.

“We're still small and nimble,” Cooper continued. “We have the flexibility to fill the gaps within existing marketing teams.”
