Marian Names New VP, Dean

Sefcik will begin his new role March 1.

Marian University has announced Don Sefcik will become the university’s new vice president of health professions and dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine. Sefcik will begin his new role March 1.

The university announced the search for the newly-created position in September. In his new role, Sefcik will lead Marian’s growing list of healthcare-related programs, which includes the College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Leighton School of Nursing.

"It is essential to have strong deans for the medical school and nursing programs who can collaborate not only with each other, but also with the faculty of our developing graduate programs in exercise science and biomedical science, to further expand Marian University’s educational offerings in the health professions," said Marian University President Daniel Elsener. "In Dr. Sefcik, we have found an experienced and highly talented leader who will ensure the success of all of our healthcare-related programs, and their graduates."

The university says Sefcik will work with Dr. Paul Evans, currently the dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine during a transitional period until Evans’ retirement in May 2017.

Sefcik comes to Marian from Michigan State University, where he served as Senior associate dean for the College of Osteopathic Medicine. Not a stranger to Indiana, Sefcik earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Butler University as well as an M.B.A. from Purdue University-Calumet.
