Ontario-based Maple Leaf Foods Inc. has completed its previously-announced purchase of a 118,000-square-foot food processing plant in Indianapolis. The acquisition is part of a $100 million investment that will also include renovations of the facility.
According to the company, it will be installing new equipment to increase its tempeh production capacity to meet growing demand.
The company’s subsidiary, Illinois-based Greenleaf Foods SPC, is expected to begin production at the plant in the first half of 2022. When fully operational, the company says it will employ approximately 115 people.
