Texas-based Tejas Tubular Products Inc. has taken a step forward in its plan to open a New Carlisle operation that could bring 150 jobs to northern Indiana over the next two years. The St. Joseph County Council approved a tax abatement request Tuesday and could take a final vote August 27. St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce President Jeff Rea tells Inside INdiana Business the move would be a boon to local suppliers who could work with the manufacturer.

The company is proposing a more than $12 million investment that includes upgrading a long-vacated brass manufacturing facility.

Tejas Chief Executive Officer Max Tejas is a Purdue graduate and believes increased use of North American tar sands means more opportunity for growth in the region.
