Manufacturer Planning Expansion in Berne

A subsidiary of Japan-based FCC Co. Ltd. has announced plans to expand in Adams County. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says FCC (Adams) LLC will invest more than $24 million to grow its Berne facility and add up to 51 jobs by 2021. FCC (Adams) is an automatic transmission clutch manufacturer that currently operates in a more than 436,000-square-foot facility, which employs 675 people.

The company plans to build and equip an 88,000-square-foot addition to the plant, beginning in February. The new space will house an aluminum die cast machine process, six CNC lathe processes and four CNC drill processes. FCC (Adams) says the expansion is due to growing customer demands.

"FCC (Adams) is a significant part of Indiana’s leading automotive industry, which is producing safe and reliable products used every day across the world," Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger said in a news release. "Indiana is proud to be home to the highest concentration of manufacturing jobs in the nation with a skilled workforce that is contributing to the growth and success of companies like FCC (Adams)."

FCC (Adams) is hiring for hourly production and support staff positions, including engineering, maintenance and supervisors. The IEDC has offered the company up to $400,000 in conditional tax credits based on its job creation plans. The city of Berne and Northeast Indiana Works will also consider additional incentives and training services.

The expansion marks the company’s sixth since establishing operations in 2003. The most recent expansion took place in 2015, in which the company invested nearly $129 million to add 140,000 square feet of space. FCC (Adams) also has another facility in Portland, Indiana which employs 790.
