Manufacturer Looking to Fill Jobs in East Chicago

East Chicago-based Hoist Liftruck Mfg. LLC has announced plans to hire 50 additional workers. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the move, which is part of a previously-announced plan to hire up to 500 by 2022, is the result of a new production line.
Hoist Liftruck says it needs to hire 30 people initially to work in its new assembly area, which will produce the electric-powered TE-Series terminal tractor, according to the publication. Once production is fully operational, 50 employees will be needed.
"The dedicated line will mimic Hoist’s current vertically integrated manufacturing model, with single piece flow throughout the entire line all the way down to the finished terminal tractor," the company said in a news release. "Current plans estimate five completed terminal tractors each day at full capacity."
The Times reports the company plans to offer an average wage of $55,000 per year with benefits for the new employees.
Hoist Liftruck originally announced its move to East Chicago from Illinois in August 2015. At the time, the company said it would invest $50 million into the East Chicago operation.
