Manufacturer Announces Elkhart Layoffs

Illinois-based New Flyer of America Inc. is planning to close its facility in Elkhart. In a notice to the state, the company says nearly 80 employees will be out of work when the plant closes in April 2019.

New Flyer, a subsidiary of Canada-based NFI Group Inc., did not provide a reason for the plant closure. The company has not responded to a request for comment from Inside INdiana Business.

It is not known when the layoffs will begin, though the company says the employees are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights. The Elkhart facility is one of several throughout North America for New Flyer.
