Manchester University has announced plans to name its College of Business after a former professor of accounting at the Wabash County school. President Dave McFadden says the Arthur L. Gilbert College of Business will pay tribute to Gilbert’s 40-year career at the university and the impact he had on students.

Gilbert himself is a 1953 graduate of Manchester University. He served on the school’s faculty from 1958 until his retirement in 1998. He helped launch Manchester’s accounting major in 1971.

"Art led the growth of accounting at MU and, with his colleagues, made it one of the most respected accounting programs in the Midwest," said McFadden. "That reputation was a point of pride for all of us, whether or not we majored in accounting. Many of Art’s accounting students went on to become entrepreneurs or leaders in business and industry. Our graduates long have been in demand by public accounting firms not only because of their skills but because of their work ethic and integrity."

The university says the College of Business will eventually move to the second floor of the $8.5 million Lockie and Augustus Chinworth Center, plans for which were announced in January. Officials will break ground on the facility in May and construction is expected to be complete in the fall of 2019.
