The city council approved an abatement request for Zeeland Lumber and Supply Co. The council passed the request unanimously during a first reading Monday. It's set for a final approval by the council September 23.
Zeeland is looking to invest more than $1 million to upgrade an Elkhart facility and locate new truss-making and delivery operations.
In the request for tax breaks, the company says the new employees could be hired by 2016.
