Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-16) has selected Terry Bauer and Keith Byers to the group, which will complete a comprehensive review of Indiana’s alcohol laws and submit recommendations to the General Assembly. In mid-July, former State Senator Beverly Gard was named commission chair.
The commission’s work will take two years, focusing on retail alcohol sales this year. Long also appointed Senator Ron Alting (R-22) and Senator Eric Bassler (R-39) to the commission. Bauer, retired Indiana Excise Police Officer who served 37 years on the force, and Keith Byers, a businessman who ran his family’s company Automotive Color for 30 years, will be lay members of the commission.
"Terry brings intimate knowledge of Indiana’s alcohol code and practical field and enforcement experience, which will allow him to be a grounded and impartial voice on the Commission. Keith, as a well-respected businessman, will bring his no-nonsense perspective and private sector experience to the group. I am confident that Hoosiers will benefit from having these two individuals as part of the discussion to modernize Indiana’s alcohol laws."
