Minnesota-based KGP Telecommunications this week announced plans to lay off 300 employees as a result of a “sudden decrease in business.”
The company says it will Monday host an in-house job fair for affected employees, with assistance from WorkOne Northern Indiana and at least 15 area employers. WorkOne representatives are continuing to work on-site to provide re-employment services such as resume preparation and mock interviews.
Affected employees are also being encouraged to attend the Warsaw Winter Job Fair, that is scheduled to take place Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at The Roost at Creighton’s Crazy Egg Café in Warsaw.
"KGPCo is a family owned company with a strong commitment to our employees and to the communities in which we are active,” said David Russell, director of operations for KGPCo. "We have a lot of great employees here and are trying to do everything we can to help them find good jobs."
David Russell, Director of Operations for KGP, says the company is doing everything it can to help the employees find good jobs. In a notice to the state, KGP cited a large customer indicated the decrease in business, which KGP has not been able to replace.
"We understand that companies make decisions every day to respond to market conditions and appreciate how difficult workforce reductions are for all involved," said Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer. "Nonetheless, we commend the local leadership at KGPCo and our partners at WorkOne Northern Indiana for their work to support the employees and families who will be affected."
The layoffs are expected to begin in mid-April.
