Indianapolis-based Eli Lilly and Co. (NYSE: LLY) has announced several changes in executive leadership. They include a new chief financial officer and a new president for Lilly Research Labs. All of the changes will go into effect in 2018.

Lilly has promoted Josh Smiley to senior vice president and CFO, effective January 1. Smiley succeeds Derica Rice, who announced in June he would retire at the end of the year. Smiley will also join the company’s executive committee.

Dan Skovronsky has been promoted to senior vice president for science and technology and president of Lilly Research Labs, effective June 1. He succeeds Jan Lundberg, who will retire in May after eight years with Lilly.

The company has also promoted Myles O’Neill to senior vice president and president of manufacturing operations, effective January 1. He succeeds Maria Crowe, who is retiring in December after 35 years with Lilly, during which she served in several roles throughout the world.

Finally, Aarti Shah, the current senior vice president and chief information officer for Lilly, will join the company’s executive committee beginning January 1. Lilly says it is critical to have the company’s IT chief report director to the chief executive officer "given the role digital technology and analytics will play in the future of healthcare."

"Joining our executive team are individuals who have the experience, expertise and leadership skills to build on our momentum of innovation driven volume growth," said CEO David Ricks. "Importantly, this team will help us maintain focus as we work to bring forward new medicines in diabetes, cancer, immunology, neurodegeneration and pain and change the path of serious disease."

Ricks also thanked Rice, Crowe and Lundberg for their service to the company, saying "they’ve been a key part of our success over the last decade and today."
