Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc. says it paid nearly $330 million in grants in 2014. The endowment says more than three-quarters of that money went to organizations in Indiana. The organization says, of the $328.6 million paid in 2014, community development grants made up 38 percent, education grants accounted for 36 percent and religion grants made up 26 percent.

The endowment says it approved nearly 700 grants last year, for a total of nearly $345 million. The funding will go to 535 organizations, with more than 130 being first-time grantees. Similarly to the grants paid in 2014, more than three-quarters of those awarded during the year were for Indiana organizations.
