GARY, Ind. – On June 2, 2015, the Gary/Chicago International Airport laid the final strip of pavement to complete the runway expansion project. While crews are still working on environmental remediation, fencing, runway lighting and other elements of the project, it will be ready to accommodate aircraft on June 25, 2015 as scheduled by the Federal Aviation Administration.

“This project has come a long way and we are now at the finish line,” said airport executive director Dan Vicari. “The runway expansion project will open on-time as mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration. The opening of the runway project is a transformational initiative that will have longlasting economic benefits for the city of Gary for years to come.
