LIDS Sports Group, which debuted its new $20 million headquarters last week, owns the rights to customize official Major League Baseball hats with players signatures. During an appearance last week on Inside INdiana Business Television, Senior Vice President of e-commerce Jeff Pearson said the company is using social media and sophisticated logistics to get merchandise in the hands of fans worldwide.
"As soon as the game ends, our partner New Era will start to manufacture whoever wins the World Series, the hat. They produce those overnight. They have a charter waiting to send it to whichever city wins. We have employees on the ground that will receive that plane, receive that product, get it to stores and we will communicate through the Press Box (the company’s high-tech social media command center) and via email that we’ve got your hat that you can buy of the World Series Champions," Pearson said.
He says the Press Box is part of a major social media monitoring focus to help LIDS keep tabs on which products fans want and then communicate that they are available.
