Legacy Foundation Awards $230K to Nonprofits

Subscribe NowThe Lake County-based Legacy Foundation have approved over $230,000 in community grants to nearly two dozen nonprofit organizations. The grants were announced following the foundation’s December meeting.
The Legacy Foundation received applications from 39 organizations for a total of $684,000 in requests to fund various programs and projects in Lake County. Nineteen nonprofits received $180,000 in grants from the Lake County Community Fund, including the Calumet Astronomical Society, Down Syndrome Association of NWI, Dunes Learning Center and South Shore Arts.
The Legacy Foundation says the Lake County Community Fund supports nonprofit organizations in the areas of arts and culture, education, environmental and animal welfare, health and human services.
An additional $56,600 in grants were approved by the Maria Reiner Senior Citizens Trust at the Legacy Foundation. The grants went to the Hobart Family YMCA, Maria Reiner Center and the School City of Hobart.
The latest round of funding adds to a grand total of nearly $800,000 in grants approved by the Legacy Foundation in 2015.
