A recently-launched sports tech accelerator has its first leader. The Indiana Sports Corp. says Jordan Fliegel, founder sports tech startup CoachUp.com and co-chief executive officer of Draft.com, will serve as managing director of Techstars Sports Accelerator Powered by Indy.
Fliegel has previous experience with other Techstars programs in Boston and New York City. He says knowing firsthand the challenges that sports tech founders face, as well as the value of Techstars, will help him in his new role.
"I’m passionate about sports and about helping founders, so this opportunity really hit home for me," said Fliegel. "One of the biggest things I’ve learned through my own startup experiences is that no one—and no company—succeeds alone. I believe that we will build the best sports accelerator in the world. The sports and venture communities in Indianapolis have rallied together to make this program a reality, and I’m thrilled to be joining them."
The accelerator was first announced in August by a group of founding partners, including the Indiana Sports Corp., the Indianapolis-based NCAA and Pacers Sports & Entertainment. It will select 10 companies from throughout the world to participate in three-month program designed to push the development of technology to benefit the sports sector.
