Michigan-based Carter Fuel Systems has announced plans for a work force reduction at its facility in Logansport. In a notice to the state, the company says it will lay off more than 80 employees beginning in late August.
The company will begin the process of laying off 82 employees August 21 and will continue through September 4. In a statement to Inside INdiana Business, the company said the reduction was being made "to better meet the current business climate."
"Despite this development, company leadership is confident that the manufacturing plant has a bright future delivering high quality fuel systems to our customers," the statement said.
The affected employees, most of which work in base assembly and base operator positions, are represented by the United Steelworkers Local 4863 and having bumping rights under their collective bargaining agreement. The layoffs are expected to be permanent.
Carter manufactures a variety of fuel pumps and accessories, according to its website.
