High Alpha Spawns Tenth Tech Startup

The first company has launched from Indianapolis-based High Alpha since the venture studio received a $100 million infusion in July, and the tenth overall. Anvl develops software designed to reduce and prevent maintenance service industry injuries. The company is led by Hoosier tech scene veteran Robin Fleming, who previously served as vice president of technology for Angie’s List before its acquisition by New York-based IAC (Nasdaq: IAC).

Anvl was born out of a first-of-its-kind collaboration for High Alpha with one of the state’s most high-profile companies: Columbus-based Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI). It is the latest company to spin out of the venture studio that launched three years ago.  "The idea for Anvl was originally brought to High Alpha by Cummins Inc. as a unique opportunity to enhance the safety processes within their organization. We brought the idea into our Sprint Week process and were compelled by the potential that exists with Anvl," High Alpha Partner Mike Fitzgerald said. "After bringing on Cummins as our first pilot customer, we are thrilled to be officially launching the company and watch Anvl continue to ensure the safety of front-line workers across the world."

Fleming, who joined High Alpha as an entrepreneur in residence in February, says Anvl’s technology can boost safety and productivity. "From day one, Anvl has been a workforce-first solution," she said, "unlike the traditional environmental, health and safety suites and compliance-based solutions. We believe we can create a safer work environment by engaging the workforce, listening to them and responding to safety risks in real-time."
