Laporte Aerospace Firm Expands Layoffs

Pittsburgh-based Howmet Aerospace (NYSE: HWM) has notified the state it will be laying off another 150 employees from its Laporte plant due to a cancellation of customer orders stemming from the pandemic.
The company already laid off 115 workers during the last week of August.
Howmet’s Laporte plant produces castings for aerospace and gas turbine applications.
In a WARN notice, the company said the layoffs will occur in two phases. The first group of approximately 85 employees will be permanently laid off the first week of October. Another group of 65 workers will be laid off in early November.
Howmet said it could not “reasonably foresee” the cancellation of customer orders which negatively impacted business operations.
