Lake County Nonprofits Score Grants

Subscribe NowMerrillville-based Legacy Foundation Inc. has awarded more than $190,000 in Transform Lake County grants to 18 nonprofit organizations throughout the county. The foundation says the funds will be used to address needs, including work readiness and access to health and education.
The recipients were chosen from an applicant pool of 31 nonprofits seeking nearly $500,000 in funding. Kelly Anoe, vice president of Legacy Foundation, says the number of high-quality applications "demonstrates the power of nonprofits working together to create a stronger Lake County."
The grant recipients include:
- Accion Chicago: Northwest Indiana Entrepreneurship Program – $12,500
- Bead Town: Promoting Transformation thru Art – $25,000
- Changing Lives and Changing Patterns, Inc.: School year Learning and Mentoring Programming – $25,000
- C-Lab: South Shore SOUP – $2,000
- Dunes Dog Training: Pets N Vets Program – $4,500
- FAITH CDC: FAITH Farms – $5,000
- Gary Shakespeare Company: Taking Our Show on the Road – $6,350
- Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana: GirlSpace Northwest Indiana – $15,231
- Hammond Education Foundation: The Blueprint for Collegiate Success – $25,000
- Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry: "Meat" the Need 2016-2017 – $2,500
- Neighbors’ Educational Opportunities: College, Career, and Workplace Readiness Project – $7,500
- Neighborhoods Incorporated of Hammond Indiana – $8,000
- Pack Away Hunger, Inc.: NW Indiana Meal Packing Event – $5,000
- St. Joseph Carmelite Home: Independent Living – $11,250
- St. Jude House: New Technology – $10,140
- SAFE Coalition for Human Rights (SAFECHR): SAFEty for Survivors Program – $3,909
- School City of Hobart Building Brickies: Mindfulness in the Classroom – $8,004
- White’s Residential and Family Services: Our Community Cares Project – $13,650
