A New Jersey-based medical diagnostics company says a planned Portage operation could grow to 200 employees in two years. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report the chief executive officer of Mercy Diagnostics Inc. says the facility, located in the former Port Tavern, will begin with up to 20 laboratory workers. Craig Hili says the company, which will be formed separately from Mercy, will increase its work force as lab employees are trained on the job.

He says additional support staff could boost totals to between 125 and 200 workers.

Mercy has a 10-year lease on the building and could start up as early as April.
