The Fort Wayne Komets and the National Hockey League’s Colorado Avalanche have agreed to terminate their affiliation agreement. Komets General Manager David Franke says the team is making the move because it wants "more roster control and flexibility."
The teams say they are ending the agreement in an amicable fashion. Franke says the Komets understand the Avalanche’s need to develop players. The team adds that it remains open to working agreements with NHL or American Hockey League clubs.
The Komets and Avalanche announced the affiliation in 2014. At the time, Franke said Colorado was "focused on winning and developing from within the entire organization."
