Kokomo Solar Project Online

A $10 million solar project in Kokomo is now complete. The 26-acre project is located on a superfund site that was once home to a Continental Steel plant. The property, which is owned by the city, has received tens of millions of dollars in environmental remediation since the company’s bankruptcy in the mid-1980s.
Installation was handled by South Bend-based Inovateus Solar LLC and the 7 megawatt project is being managed by Alterra Power Corp. of Canada. South Bend-based 1st Source Corp. (Nasdaq: SRCE) provided loans for the work, which began last year and wrapped up December 29.
Alterra will sell power to Duke Energy Indiana through a 20-year agreement. The Canadian company and Inovateus Solar are also collaborating on a project in Michigan that is nearly double the size of the Howard County installation.
