The 2014 budget proposal from the Howard County Commissioners includes funding for a new convention center. The Kokomo Tribune reports officials don't expect to take action on the request until final budget hearings early next month. The Kokomo Event Center is currently owned by Ivy Tech Community College, which Commissioner Paul Wyman says saves the city up to $150,000 per year.

He said the city's convention and visitors bureau would like to engage in a feasibility study of the project.

He believes the city and county can target conferences of around 500 people.
